Software
System Expansion
The VibWire-101
can be operated as a single channel device or can be expanded for large
scale applications using the MUX-16/32
expansion unit. The VibWire-1018
when expanded using the MUX-16/32
units supports up to 64 x 4 wire sensors or to 128 x 2 wire sensors.
The terminal port on the instrument
enables any channel on the MUX-16/32
to be selected under User control. This feature of the system
considerably speeds up sensor testing in the field since the User does
not have to wait for a complete scan in order to activate a specified
sensor. The results for the sensor scan are available immediately.
Lightning Protection
The MUX-32
expansion unit contains in-built
gas discharge protection to prevent damage to the instrumentation from
local lightning strikes. For the lightning protection the MUX-16/32
has to be connected to a good earth. A solid earth mounting tab is
provided on the MUX-16/32 to
connect the device to the system earth.
Introduction
The VibWire-101
is a sensor building block for the creation of vibrating wire sensor
systems. The basic device is a single channel unit making it an ideal
low cost solution when individual remote monitoring of discrete sensors
is required, or, as as a building block when large channel count
distributed applications are required.
The VibWire-101
works with any data logger or network interface that supports SDI-12
or RS-485 digital network.
Industry standard commands are used to start a measurement and recover
data.
Environmental Protection
All of the VibWire-101
family of products are supplied in fully encapsulated plastic
enclosures making the complete ideal for operation in harsh
environments, tunnels, man holes or remote stand-alone
applications. The instrument is immersion proof and will still be
operating long after more expensive competitive products have failed.

The VibWire-101
and Q-LOG Software
The free version of
the Q-LOG software supports up to 10 x
VibWire-101 instruments onto
a single digital network. The ViBWire-101
instruments running into this version of the software can be those
expanded expanded using the multiplexer unit.
Data Values
The VibWire-101
can supply output values in Hz, Digits (Hz2), or SI Units. The temperature
sensor output can be in units of Deg C or mV.

Terminal Port
Any modern terminal program such as
the Microsoft Hyper-terminal
or Token-7 that supports
VT100 emulation can be used to access the VibWire-101
menu system. All of the sensor configuration parameters can be set
using the terminal port.
