NetPod 4004
High Speed Synchronized Data
Acquisition System
Introduction
The NetPod 4004 is a new member of
the high speed series of instruments that have been designed from the
outset to offer everything needed in a stand-alone
instrumentation for both local and distributed measurement solutions.
The 4004 provides high levels of
data synchronisation both among channels within an instrument and
instruments across a network.

Each of the sensor inputs use a
bayonet fitting plug and socket to attach signal inputs to the
instrument. A physical release is needed to remove the sensor input
from the device and so makes sure that the cabling remains reliably
attached no matter the industrial environment in to which the
instrument is deployed.
Software Support
The NetPod 4004 is supported by
drivers for most modern data acquisition and SCADA software such as:

Network Data Synchronisation
The NetPod 4000 series instruments
support network synchronised data acquisition operations in that all
channels, for all instruments on a network. The synchronisation ensures
that all the individual analogue converters for each input channel on
all instruments operate at the same sample rate and take their readings
at the same instance in time.
The networked
synchronised readings are accurate to within a few
microseconds.

Initialisation / Boot time
Output
The NetPod 4004 analogue output
ports initialise at the 0 level no matter if they are in current or
voltage mode, for approximately 2 seconds after which they
automatically adjust to their preset levels.
The digital output ports can be
settle to there preset condition immediately after initialisation.
All output levels are set within
the driver software.
Software Defined
Processor
The NetPod 4004 uses the new high
speed NP-SF4000-100T
software defined processor card. This processor card offers high speed
network operations and connects to an external network using its on-board
100 BaseT port.
Software defined processing enables
customisation of the NP-SF4000-100T
card to be easily carried to suit any industrial applications.
The programmable device used in this system can be obtained
from several different manufacturers and so enables a long operating
life for this system without fear of obsolescence or problems of
supply.
Analogue Interface Cards
All the analogue input cards
contain individual analogue to digital converters, opto-isolation
and sensor excitation. An in-built
flash memory device stores the manufacture and calibration information.
Cards can be removed and replaced
within other instruments and all systems information updated
efficiently. Part number and calibration records can be automatically
maintained.
Large Channel Solutions
The NetPod 4004 can be
combined
into large channel count systems offering combinations of analogue
input, output and digital control.
The photo opposite shows a 48
channel analogue input, 16 channel analogue outputs with digital
interfacing in a single rack solution.
