Introduction

Keynes Controls manufactures a series of hardware synchronised data acquisition solution using the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) ATM network for data transmission. Unlike the Ethernet /LAN ranges of synchronised systems, the ATM solutions use the network clock to provide all of the timing signals. This means that all of the data acquisition hardware is using the same clock signal to synchronise their operation. Any slight fluctuation in the timing signal is passed to all units simultaneously and synchronisation is maintained.

The Keynes Controls range of ATM network product can be used on copper/cable networks as well as the fibre optic network as shown below.

Large Scale Distributed Solution

The image above shows how a fibre optic distributed ATM application is put together using the SeaDAQ and AD2408/AD2416VF interface cards and media converters. The ATM rack system supports all the components required to connect the interface cards to the Fibre network.

The AD2408/AD2416 cards all use individual ADC per input and contain in built digital filtering and automatic calibration operations. All the anti-ailias filtering is undertaken digitally and so cannot drift with temperature or age. Signal conditioning can be customised for a range of different sensor inputs.

Revised Nov 2011
The signal conditioning boards are fitted separately to the communications interface for the AD2416F series cards and this enables the signal conditioning to be customised on demand.
